Hello and happy 2023! I’m glad to be back after a few weeks off and am looking forward to much more Made You A Mix in the coming year!
I was lucky enough to spend my New Years in Edinburgh, Scotland (or more specifically a few miles south of the city-proper at a dang castle!) where I celebrated the wedding of two dear friends.
I love Edinburgh- I studied abroad there during the spring semester of my junior year. Not to be ~that girl~ but that semester was incredibly formative. I am, historically, not great with change, and this was a big one. After some initial hesitation, I grew to love all that comes with living in a city. One of my favorite parts of my city girl life was taking the bus. I’d never had easy and reliable access to public transportation, so taking a bus to class, my internship, or to meet up with friends was very exciting. I felt very cool sitting in a window seat with my headphones in.
As you may expect, there are a handful of albums and songs that came to define my time in Edinburgh and specifically my time spent riding the bus. I didn’t get a chance to take the bus last week, but I did spend my last day in town on a very, very long walk, listening to the music I loved while living there. That music is the inspiration behind today’s highly-specific mix.
So grab your seat on the second story of the bus, gaze wistfully out the window with all the 21-year-old optimism you can muster, and hit play.
Thanks for being here, for reading, for listening, and for subscribing! If you enjoyed this week’s mix, please share with a friend!
Excellent choices.
