Oops, holiday Mondays messed up my schedule once again! Here’s a mid-week roundup instead.
In 2016, I went to Nashville to see Jenny Lewis play at the Ryman Auditorium for a 10th anniversary celebration of her album, Rabbit Fur Coat. The setlist for the first act of the show was Rabbit Fur Coat, played in its entirety and in order. When she got to the point in the album where she covers “Handle With Care” by the Traveling Wilburys, she announced a special guest would be joining. I’m sure at the time I assumed it would be Conor Oberst as he features on her cover. Instead, Jimmy Buffet, decked out in a suit jacket featuring bejeweled pot leaves, walked on stage to thunderous applause. It ruled.
I’m not very well-versed in Jimmy Buffet’s discography beyond the basics; as kids, my sister and I definitely had a tape that included “Cheeseburger in Paradise” and I remember his performance of “Caribbean Amphibian” with the Muppets. In his honor, I’ve been listening to more this past week.
Besides Jimmy Buffet, my listening has been all over the place: mostly an assortment of Fiona Apple, The Modern Lovers, and Sabrina Carpenter. All of that plus whatever else has been on my mind on today’s mix!
Thanks for being here! If you enjoy Made You a Mix, please share with a friend!
Very eclectic mix. Hard to believe it has been 50 years since the first ML lp.
