Hi, happy Monday, Beyoncé finally won Album of the Year at last night’s Grammys! Two of my predictions from last week were correct - Cowboy Carter for Album of the Year and Chappell Roan for Best New Artist - which is a major improvement over last year! Billie Eilish and Taylor Swift were both shut out of last night’s awards - I’m actually surprised Billie didn’t walk away with something, but not surprised Taylor didn’t. Doechii, Chappell Roan, Sabrina Carpenter, and Charli XCX (all of whom did win awards yesterday) gave performances that made me really excited about the direction pop music is headed (and should have some of these legacy pop acts nervous!).
My absolute favorite moment of the night happened after Kendrick Lamar won Record of the Year for “NOT LIKE US.” The song was playing throughout the arena while Kendrick made his way to the stage. Right as he approached the mic, the song reached its lyrical peak, and you could hear the crowd sing along to “A MINORRRRR.” *chef’s kiss* Absolutely incredible. A great win, great context for a win! Drake is somewhere fuming.
One of the best things about awards shows is seeing all these celebrities interact. My dream is for there to be some kind of audience feed to watch throughout the awards, and especially during commercials, so we could see more of these interactions. If this does exist and I somehow missed it, PLEASE let me know. Current political news is absolutely abysmal, just let me have more celeb gossip!
Another quick roundup this week including “Abracadabra,” the song Lady Gaga dropped during a commercial break last night, and “Nosebleeds,” the song Doechii dropped after her Best Rap Album win, plus new tracks from SASAMI with Clairo, Momma, Jennie with Dominic Fike, and more!
