I’ve thought about making a “nepo baby” mix for a while, but always worried maybe it was rude? Well, after Vulture declared 2022 the year of the nepo baby, I felt like, “how could I not?”
If you, like me, are too-online, you could not miss December’s Vulture piece or detailed family-tree style breakdowns of nepo babies AKA the children of celebrities and industry insiders who are benefiting from nepotism in the entertainment industry. If you, like me, are constantly consuming pop culture news, you also know these nepo babies are everywhere: in your favorite shows, movies, music, magazines, books. Some nepo babies have a little more natural talent than others [looking at you, Brooklyn Beckham], but they’ve all got that extra special something [important parents] to get them through the door. I don’t hate them for it- if I were the child of famous people, I too would be an aspiring famous person.
Being a nepo baby in music doesn’t mean you’re not talented! I think everyone on this mix, (yes, even Paris!) has a sure level of musical talent and entertainment value. Being a nepo baby in music just means it was a little easier to get in that recording booth (and maybe we’re all just a little jealous of that). So here it is! The Nepo Baby Mix!
