Sorry to be hitting your inbox late today, but there’s been a lot to catch up on!
We’ll start with the Brit Awards which were this past Saturday. Winners included Wet Leg for Best New Artist, The 1975 for Alternative/Rock Act, and Harry Styles for Pop/R&B Act. Styles also took home one of the major awards of the night for British Artist of the Year, a category which recently drew criticism as there were no female artists among the nominees.
In his quest to always do the bare minimum, Styles ended his acceptance speech for Artist of the Year with, “I’m very aware of my privilege up here tonight. So, this award is for Rina, Charli, Florence, Mabel, and Becky.” [Rina Sawayama, Charli XCX, Florence + the Machine, Mabel, and Becky Hill were just some of the artists shut out of the category.]
Charli XCX was vocal about the snub, and rightly so. In true Charli fashion, she showed up to the awards show looking hot as hell and then headed out after in a shirt reading “REAL WINNER.” I love her!
Rihanna, and I suppose the Kansas City Chiefs, were also real winners this past weekend at the Super Bowl.
I thought Rihanna sounded and looked amazing, I loved the floating stages, and I was pleased with the song choices. My personal fave, “Pour It Up,” got its own moment so I really have zero complaints! And anyone with them can take a hike! The halftime show is a notoriously hard feat to pull off and she, as expected, crushed it.
Today’s mix features just a handful of the artists who were real winners this weekend including those mentioned above and more!
