Hi, happy Tuesday, happy September?!
I spent this past weekend at a friend’s bachelorette party. While we were out one night, we went to what was basically a college bar- we were in a big college town, so it was inevitable. As our group is nearly a decade out of college, this was as much an anthropological study as it was a night out. The music selection at this bar was very interesting: it was almost exclusively our pregame playlist from college meaning every song was from about 2014 or earlier. (In the couple of hours we were there, the DJ played “No Hands” not once but twice!) Also interesting were the handful of current tracks that made the cut: both “HOT TO GO!” and “Pink Pony Club” by Chappell Roan and “Please Please Please” by Sabrina Carpenter. Trust that I am not upset about any of these choices, just intrigued!
Re: Sabrina Carpenter- I’ve had her new album, Short n’ Sweet, on repeat since its release. I appreciate that Sabrina is funny (I laughed out loud at several lines on this album) and campy (the new music video for “Taste” references some horror classics) and above it all just a good singer and performer. I really like this album. (Enough so that I’ll even forgive the inevitable appearance of Jack Antonoff in the song credits.)
In a completely separate vein, I’ve been listening to Oasis in honor of the news that Liam and Noel Gallagher have decided to put aside their many (many) differences and reunite for a tour. I’m not really an Oasis fan, though I do respect the Gallaghers’s commitment to being professional haters. Excited for the Oasis stans- I really hope the tour happens! Nostalgia ($$$$) is a powerful thing!
In addition to Sabrina Carpenter and Oasis, I’ve been listening to new music from Blondshell, Allie X, Magdalena Bay, Grace Enger, and more! Would love to know what you’re listening to!
